How to Read SMD Resistor Codes
SMD resistors use a numerical marking system to indicate their resistance value:
3-Digit Code
- First two digits: Significant figures
- Third digit: Number of zeros to add
- Example: "103" = 10 × 10³ = 10,000Ω = 10kΩ
4-Digit Code
- First three digits: Significant figures
- Fourth digit: Number of zeros to add
- Example: "1002" = 100 × 10² = 10,000Ω = 10kΩ
Common SMD Codes
| Code | Value |
|---|---|
| 100 | 10 Ω |
| 101 | 100 Ω |
| 102 | 1 kΩ |
| 103 | 10 kΩ |
| 104 | 100 kΩ |
| 105 | 1 MΩ |
Tips
- ✓ Always verify the measured value with a multimeter
- ✓ Some SMD resistors may use different marking systems
- ✓ Consider the resistor's tolerance rating
- ✓ Check the resistor's power rating for your application
